    What is wrong in Canada

I went to Canadian Tire to buy some CO2 and it turns out that they need like my license information for me to do so. A few weeks back I bought pellets at Lebarons and had to do the same.

For CO2 they need a copy of my license... Really?

Just that store being uneducated (and lacking some serious common sense).
I'd say I care- but I'd probably be lying...

I'm making sure I get all of my airguns now as I think in the near future the laws are going to change to make us look like criminals and that great TW1911 won't be as great painted pink from factory as per some silly new law..

Firstly, although I'm not condoning CTC policies they do have the right to set whatever "conditions of sale" they feel are appropriate. As long as what they are asking is
    a) Non discriminatory
    b) Not Illegal in itself

Ferrari will not sell you a car until you have completed their drivers course
Rolls Royce will not sell you a car unless you can show you have the appropriate assets to maintain that car for it's projected lifetime
The pharmacy in a major city will not sell you Sudafed unless you provide ALL your personal information.

These are all conditions of sale and are all completely legitimate. If you do not accept the conditions you have the right to not proceed with that transaction.

But secondly and more importantly why are you supporting CTC at all? They are far more interested in selling her the latest Martha Stewart flatware than him a rifle or a set of tires. The margin on that set of tires is 25% the margin on the flatware is closer to a 1000%. My local canadian tire is one of the handful that have an entire grocery store in the middle.

The solution is simple....don't support mass retailers, because they just don't care about you or your 25%

Support Eric, support your local gunsmith/outdoors shop, or support dedicated merchandisers like LeBaron....they all have one thing in common. You are their ONLY market.

I do support Eric, and other small retailers. However getting some CO2 on Sunday at 4pm is not easy. I would hate to drive to Perth, show up at his house and get him to go to unlock the store to get me some CO2. Sometimes the problem is convenience and the answer is convenience.

Let's not go running off with the idea everything is coming apart- some idiot store personnel are just that, idiots- probably were told somewhere along the way "anything in that cabinet needs a firearms license" when either Co2 wasn't in it, or the person giving the instruction was also out-to-lunch.
I'd say I care- but I'd probably be lying...

I don't think it's coming apart any day soon, but it does seem that the RCMP has been cracking down on some real guns, banning them all of a sudden, banning some blank guns, I've even heard that some importers of paintball and airsoft guns have been held longer than usual at customs.

I could see Canadian Tire people being a bit clueless, but Lebarons?

If they are in the wrong I want to know so that I can complain that they are violating my privacy, if not, where is that law that requires then to do this.

In Toronto where every issue in Canada is either Rob Ford or Stephen Harpers fault it's easy to be a bit paranoid because if it isn't the most liberal thing in the world everyone is 5 seconds away protesting it.
