Ouch! I've seen a few "counterfeit" parts in the past few years. Some off-shore manufacturers are making quick bucks.
Unfortunately, when they come to me I'm examining fracture surfaces.

The concensus is that the fitting is a plated brass male "Foster clone".... I presume plated to hide that it was made of brass.... an accident looking for a victim....
