Expeiment of sorts- 9mm Sam Yang "Recluse"...

Had one of these come in the other day, Sam Yang Recluse double-tube:

rated at 983fps- I would have to assume using Eun Jin 77.8gr 9mm pellets- which is 167fpe. Powerful, and as noisy as any powderburner, but without the, not sure how to describe it, perhaps 'powder-burn echo'- loud as hell, but only at the time the pellet leaves the muzzle.

Haven't time time to experiment with anything or shoot it more than 10 times- which is about all that can be had from the dual-tank setup- every full-power shot took 20 bar (200 bar fill) and by shot 6 the drop in power was fairly obvious and you could watch the bullet arc to it's target.

Anyways, I was curious about the valve in such a thing- but upon giving it some consideration, to fill a 9mm hole with a ton of air can't be that difficult- just a bit of 'upsizing' of the plunger and transfer port I imagine.

Maybe I'll get some time to do some real experimenting with it soon (chrony as well)...

Somebody's been shooting without hearing protection. I know that echo well- oddly enough, it's more prevalent in .303 Brit than .308/7.62 N, so go figure...

Interesting gun. Give us your impressions when you have the time.

Gotta learn about the gun from the inside out, you know! I always 'listen' to a rifle for the first couple dozen shots to get a 'feel' for it. I didn't realize it was more pronounced on the .303- but good to know.

In all seriousness, that "echo" is the hypersonic "crack" of the bullet- the sound wave is decelerating rapidly, and dopplering off into the distance at the same time. Dunno why it's more noticeable in a bullet clocking close to 2100 muzzle fps than one going near the 2600 mark...
