    Another QB78 Project

Decided to get a start on things while waiting for the goods to arrive. Set up a jig on my tablesaw to cut some coves in aluminum bar.
Managed to do what I wanted keeping safety in mind.
Can't do much more to the new riser until I get the goods I ordered. This will lift the barrel about 3/8'' making room for some other things to come.

would you believe I remembered this technique from high school industrial arts? The only mills around here to use come with an operator and costs $$$, so I decided to do this "old school". Simple search of making a cove on a tablesaw will give you some pictorials and a link to a calculator to set up your angle. Caution must be used when doing this to aluminum by means of several light passes to achieve the desired cove, and supporting the piece securely during the passes. I also have a tiny belt/disc sander thingy I use to do finish sanding. When I get the receiver in hand I will finish milling the slots and drilling holes.

Excellent coves. That is one heck of a beefy riser. I'm looking forward to the rest

It is beefy isn't it? I guess my theory is I didnt pay $100 or more dollars for it parts and shipping so it can be hacked trimmed or whatever later, and if I eff up i'll just make another one. I have been tossing the thought around of what material to use for the new extended pins.

    That's an easy one.

This stuff will work the best overall and in the size you need your looking at $4.50 for a lifetime supply

    Just as a side note

The trick to Fastenal is find a store anywhere in canada that will work with you. Order and buy the product through them and have it dropped shipped to the store closest to you....for free

That's how we do it on the ships

I think I have some of that rod in my box of plenty. By any chance has anyone tried UHMP for a valve stem seal? I happen to have a couple feet of this type of rod and no delrin.

That should work. UHMW is less machineable so the surface finish is higher with delrin. Other than that UHMW is superior to delrin in most physical characteristics

Try using a tool with a ridiculous amount of side rake and the finish will be quite good. 30 deg or more
