questions about Crosman M4-117 Canadian version

    Hi all.

I am new to air guns and just picked myself up a M4-117 by Crosman.

I live in Canada so I dot the detuned version, 497 FPS IIRC

Does anyone know exactly how Crosman Detuned this air gun?

I also came across a metal flat top piston kit upgrade searching the internet the other day, however, wondering if anyone can tell me if a Canadian source exists for this mod?

can anyone point me in the right direction on these 2 questions?

    thanks all.

This is the Canadian source: http://scopesandammo.com/storefront/...ston-kit-p-383

Your M4-177 will be shooting somewhere in the range of 450fps "detuned"- note the figure is a "maximum of 495fps"- Crosman's are detuned generally well below the maximum.
I'd say I care- but I'd probably be lying...

    Thanks for the input guys.

I figured I would be shooting at approx 400FPS out of the box.

Is there a balpark number (in FPS) gain that the M4-177 and Pumpmaster 760 Flat Top Piston Kit will give?

I want to know if I will go over 500 FPS or not. If I go over 500 FPS, this is now a firearm :(

If a airgun is modded to be over 500 FPS, and the owner has a PAL. can the owner then regester the airgun as a firearm? or is it illegal to modify the air gun in the first place?

At present, there is a long gun registry only in Quebec. If you do not live in Quebec and you have a PAL, modify away ... just remember to treat your over 500 fps long gun as you would any firearm, safe storage, transport etc.
If you do live in Quebec and modify a non-PAL lung gun to over 500 fps, you have opened a can-o-worms but you may be able to register it, or maybe not because it isn't on "the list".

It is not illegal to modify a product/manufacture a "firearm" if you have the appropriate license and register for it if/as required.

The only "illegal" modifications would be if you don't have appropriate licensing, do not register it if required depending on product/where you live, or create some sort of "prohibited device".

The FTP kit will put an M4 over 500fps- if you do not want a "firearm" then you could avoid this by trimming the hammer spring down a half-dozen coils.

The real point of the FTP is to allow less pumps for the same amount of power ouput on a product- i.e. if it takes 8 pumps to get 500fps on an M4 or 760, the FTP would allow getting there in 5 or 6 pumps.

In the case of the M4-177, I would have to assume that if it was brought up to th specs of being a "firearm" it might very well get classified as a "Restricted Firearm" due to its appearance- i.e. simialr to an AR-15 or an M-4, so trimming the hammer spring would be the way to go unless you want to have to license and register it (everywhere in Canada for a Restricted product) and then obtain an Authorization to Transport (ATT) to move it anywhere. You could cut the hammer spring to max it out at 500fps and get there in a reduced number of pumps with the FTP kit.
I'd say I care- but I'd probably be lying...
