Bob I would say stick with the production bullets for a couple reasons. They look like RWS R50 and if so they are super soft annealed lead and free of voids and a fancy coating to boot.

I'm afraid cast boolits would be inherently too hard and at these spins rates if the was any void or inclusion the would be going around like an egg beater.

Did he happen to say what a mandrel was worth to pay for outright?

I talked to Mike again, and he has a 0.223" liner with a 16" twist.... If we want a 0.223" with a 14" twist and 6 lands it would be $300.... If only 4 lands a bit less....

In case you don't have the information.... here are the BCs for Sierra .22 rimfire bullets at three velocity ranges....

    http://www.exteriorballistics.com/eb.../22rimfire.cfm

Looks like a BC of about 0.17 for a 41.5 gr bullet with a slightly bigger diameter would be a good guess between 905 and 1047 fps.... Starting at 1000 fps (92 FPE) it would retain nearly 80 FPE at 100 yards.... With a 50 yard zero, it would be about 1/2" high at 30-35 yards and only 8" low at 100.... Wind drift in a 10 mph crosswind at 100 yards would be only 2"....

    How about one of each
    one .223 / 16
    one .224/14

    And compare notes.

I have an order of those projectiles in the shopping cart I just need my Dutch coworker to help me checkout.

Sounds like a plan.... You want me to order them?.... I'm thinking you are the chambering expert, though.... I can pay for them and have them shipped to you?.... Let me know....

EDIT: May have another source for the RWS pellets - sent an email....

Sounds an interesting project...will be following along. :)

You may want to talk to Charlie (Roachcreek)...he's been using cast bullets (custom mold from LBT) in his .25 Condor. Believe the barrel is an LW, but he cut the choke off and re-crowned, altered the chamber and leade...with a "hillbilly lathe" yet. lol

    Results speak volumes though...

Searching the TAG for "LBT" will turn up a thread or two. ;)

Now, if Charlie can get results like that from a Condor with it's frame flex, half assed barrel mounting and cant issues due to scope height above bore...makes a fellow (well me anyways) wonder what a more rigidly designed "proper" rifle could manage.

Ya I'm looking forward to it Al
Just a few minor details to sort out yet and we'll be off to the races.

I'm pondering the idea of using two solid blocks for the breech and valve arrangement rather than the traditional tube stack...not sure how that will pan out but .....

The other email contact didn't work out and suggested Drummen as the place to purchase the bullets.... I see you have asked about the diameter, any answer yet?....

I contacted Drummen to see if they would expedite to Canada and I have not heard back yet. I'll give them a full day to respond then I'll get in touch with my German friends and have them expedite.

Just to bring everyone else up to speed the the information I got on another forum is that these projectiles measure 0.223 spot on the largest driving band and the preferred barrel is from the 22 Hornet. Making it a .224 barrel ranging from 14 to 15.3 twist rate.
