I had a 1049F for a time, until trading it. It was great for fit, finish, and accuracy (for a $100 rifle, anyways), but I never liked the placement of the auto-set safety release.
That said, the checkered stock on the QB18 may be enough to help me overlook the wonky safety...

I'm sure there is enough mad scientists around here to have that question answered in short order

I realize I am a novice with regard to the clones of the German guns.

However ..... the QB18 seems to be a damn close copy of the Weihrauch 95 Luxus. Not in performance, but it has a lot of similar features.

Can someone show me why this couldn't be a copy?

I was so impressed with the QB18, I am now looking getting a HW 77/97.

Yes, the Bam B26 is the HW95/Beeman R9 clone.

The lowly QB-18 has a beautiful wood stock, for sure, but the compression chamber is smaller than the HW95, it has a direct sear single stage trigger. Get yourself a HW rifle if you have the means, they are very beautiful and excellent shooters. I have a few German rifles, including a HW97K, and they really are worth what they cost. But, I also have many Chinese rifles and most of them are worth twice what they cost with a bit of polish, lube and sometimes new seals. My QB-18 has proven to be a very good shooter with just a bit of polish and lube.
