    pellets

    Hi all,

Has any one figured out how far a pellet will fly or be dangerous to some one ? Take for instance a H&N Baracuda Match @21.30 gr. and in a pal rated gun @ 800 ftps . How'd you figure this out? On Powder ammo you always have a dangerous distance posted. Are there any charts stating this ? Ted

Don't have an answer but have thought of shooting on a long pond to see how far different guns shoot. I think you should be able to see the pellets hit on a calm day.

chairgun would calculate that for you no problem. Once you get to 4 fpe it's considered non lethal

Chairgun will also give the maximum possible range of a given pellet with a specified muzzle velocity. With a tail wind, your mileage may vary.

Put in the information for your pellet as normal.... Open the Tools menu, about half way down, click on "Maximum Range"....

Thanks a lot for the help Bob. After looking a the chart for a minute it becomes easier. The total distance that pellets go is a lot further than I imagined.

Yes, my .25 cal rifle (25.4 gr. JSBs at 950 fps) has a miximum range of over 650 yards (1.4 FPE remaining) when fired at a 23* angle.... and takes nearly 350 yards to fall below 4 FPE.... Even a non-PAL airgun can carry 350 yards and have over 4 FPE at 65 yards (.22 cal)....
