    My Quest died...RIP

Took it out today...she has survivied 6 years of neglect...abuse.....dry firing.....no sauce......bashed about....

She couldn't even stick pellets into "duct seal" @ 10M...

    I mounted rail....got a flashlight on 'er...no help.

    Mounted a bipod.....no help.....

    I did all I could.

    That ***** died.

    So....seals....piston....NEW GUN?

Where do I go from here?
My best option is to get a Phantom in .177.......(I am a big fan of black plastic)...

Would it cost me more to get a new one, ($99 plus shipping)...or try to revive the dead?

    Cheers,

Depends on how bad you like to tinker! Eric would have the parts to get her breathing again! New guns are always nice too. I am not sure if they are still on sale but Eric did have some .177 Phantoms on special sale recently. Check out the thread in the dealers section!

    ...Mmmm, maybe it's not dead....

After the negative experience that lead me to start the thread, I fed 'er some oil,

Pulled the guts out of the stock, gave all of them bits some sauce....she's weak, but still hangin in...

She'll be in intensive care for a bit, methinks.

The kid and I were discussing this gun today, and her take was:
-"daddy, you painted this one just right!...it's better than the good one with the "green & red telescope".

Now it's like that old, sick dog you can't bring yourself to shoot.

I can't give 'er up...so I'm gonna chop the stock, and let the kid shoot that barrel out.......(a six inch group is not terrible for a six-year old).

And now, the "Quest" continues, (a-ha....see what I did there?)

I've had a pretty sweet deal sent my way......Im'a hit it, I think, and leave my old Love for the chillun's.

    Goodbye, my Love!

    Cheers,

Have you cronied it and if so what results did you see?

I Installed the nitro piston conversion in my .22 phantom, its up to just under 700 FPS with JSB Exact Jumbo Diabolo (15.83gr).

Was expecting a little more power from her, converting from a USA spring wasn't that huge a leap as converting from the Canadian spring to the American one., although i believe its in line for the piston they advertise the Jim Shockey nitro pistons as 950 FPS in .22 cal but of course that's with the marketing tactic of using a non lead pellet.

Don't shy away from the kit because it says some machining is needed, i was able to do it in under 2 minutes with a dremel stone, though you will need a spring compressor.

You will end up with a much more accurate rifle with the Nitro piston, and you lose a bit of that thwack rattle sound of the springs when you fire.
