Bill C-19, the act to eliminate the “long gun registry”, will have its final reading before Parliament on April 2, according to the Senate notice paper published today. The Senate committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs recommended the legislation be sent to the final stage, third reading, yesterday.

The committee heard witnesses over four days in March. The Senate has a majority of senators appointed by Conservative governments, the current one of which introduced the legislation last fall. It is expected that the legislation will pass on Monday with little debate.
If the bill passes, it becomes law when it receives Royal Assent or on a date fixed in the legislation.
