I agree something cheap and simple.
Flat black would be best for the contrast I think.
Especially since I need all the help I can get as my eyes are not quite what they used to be.
Besides they are targets and are going to get the sh-t shot out of them.
John Deere has a Medium Black which is real tough but Tremclad or Rustoleum would be the easiest to find.
Walmart and Princess Auto both sell a cheaper flat black spray bomb that works well.
Not having any luck finding the contact info I mentioned, will keep looking.

I think the FT guys use some sort of a yellow plastic tape that they put on the paddles for good contrast.... It is supposed to stand up better than paint and is easy to replace.... Contact one of the guys in CAFTA for the information.... They also use restrictor plates to increase the difficulty by reducing the hole size.... Something to think about.... IIRC, accceptable sizes are from 1.75" all the way down to 0.25"....

Ya that would be awesome. Flat black body and a bright yellow paddle. Even I could see that

I think that should work OK.... provided it's heavy enough material to not get bent up....

As a sort of comparison, Marksman Target Traps- 2.68-2.70mm (12ga) target shapes, sheet metal casing around 1.56mm (16ga).

    Box has written on it "specifications" for shooting;

Shooting Distance, Caliber, Max. Velocity, FPE at muzzle
(FPE is my calculation using avg. weight pellets)

    15m, .177, 800fps, 11.22fpe
    15m, .20, 650fps, 11.25fpe
    15m, .22, 600fps, 11.43fpe

    25m, .177, 900fps, 14.21fpe
    25m, .20, 700fps, 13.06fpe
    25m, .22, 650fps, 13.42fpe

    35m, .177, 1000fps, 17.55fpe
    35m, .20, 750fps, 14.99fpe
    35m, .22, 700fps, 15.56fpe

I have no idea if these numbers are based on "advertised" power output, or real numbers- but I would go with "real" numbers.

So it appears for the target 'pad' 3mm would be adequate for most typical FT shooting- but I would guess that if someone buys a small-volume, higher priced (the Gamo box retails in Canada for about $30.00) knock-down target, it may get used for/in higher power applications.

I'd say I care- but I'd probably be lying...
