Airguns with both high muzzle velocity and high muzzle energy

    Hi,

Looks like the type of airguns explained in the title needs registration.
I have two questions if possibly can be answered.

First, is the process of registration for this type of airguns similar to the other Firearms?
This means; there is a serial number, and before even the rifle is handover the registration papers need to be ready, etc.

Second, if you possess one of these types of airguns, can you practice target shooting in your backyard by following specific range procedures?

FYI, I am living in Markham Ontario.

    RG,
    Pirooz.

"Registration" is the same for airguns and powderburners. To repeat the legal wording- "airguns with both a muzzle velocity greater than 152.4 meters per second and a muzzle energy greater than 5.7 joules" are considered a "firearm" just like a powderburner.

"Registration" is only applicable to firearms classified as "Restricted" or "Prohibited" and the proper license for such must be in the possession of the owner.

Virtually all airguns in a rifle format sold in Canada that are considered "firearms" for the purposes of legality are classified as "non-restricted"- meaning a license is required to handle/possess/own it, but there is no "registration" with anyone. Most pistol airguns that exceed the threshold and would then be classified as "Restricted" and require registration are not sold in Canada (many manufacturers won't ship them to Canada and most Canadian vendors either don't involve themselves in airguns of this type or the market segment for this is so small airgun-specific vendors won't spend their time on it).

If you have a Restricted airgun the same laws/regulations and guidelines as for any other Restricted gun would apply- i.e. target shooting setup/permits/etc.
I'd say I care- but I'd probably be lying...

    Thanks for the clarification.

Now, if I want to buy one of these airguns, like Benjamin Trail, it there anywhere that I could buy online?

I found sellers in the US, but they refused to ship to Canada and said they had difficulties doing so even after I told them that I have a Firearm License.
If needed to go to the store, it is possible for me to arranger being at the store, but couldn't find a store carrying these type of airgun in the GTA.

    Thanks,
    Pirooz.

    Look here: http://www.scopesandammo.com/storefront/

If you are looking specifically at Benjamin Trail rifles with the factory/normal amount of power (and require a PAL), start here: http://scopesandammo.com/storefront/...ut-c-25_97_106

Depends on what brand of pellets, different vendors sell different manufacturers. Is there something specific you are looking to find?

I could find some on eBay.
If you know any vendor for JSB in Canada, that will help.
    Thanks,
