    You could also try a soft cloth and penetrating oil for very light surface rust. It might take a bit of "elbow grease" but should do the trick it the rust is not pitting any of the steel.

    Following up on Erics suggestion of Penetrating oil. Never Dull Magic Wool is cellulose and cotton wool soaked in penetrating oil and packed in a tin can. It's been around for about 75 years and works a charm

    Tried this stuff last year, and SMP is right - works great!
