    The Wandlyn burned down.......

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-s...-view-inn.html

    Quote from CBC:
Two firefighters were injured while battling a fire at the Pine View Inn in Coldbrook, N.S.

The blaze was raging in the motel's convention centre by the time fire crews arrived at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"Firefighters initially made an interior attack on the fire but were forced back by the fast moving fire," the Kentville fire department said in a statement.

Crews from 17 fire departments in the Annapolis Valley helped to contain the fire.

The firefighters were hurt in the icy conditions, the CBC's Phonse Jessome reported from the scene early Thursday.

Jessome said some roads near the motel are closed because water used to fight the fire has frozen. The local school board has changed some bus routes.

The motel on Highway 1 near Kentville was part of the Wandlyn chain until two years ago. A restaurant and bar opened recently.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time
    .

    This is a shame.

My wife and I had our wedding reception there, (as well as a great piss-up with the wedding party the night before at Legends), and planned to go back for a night this May for our 10th anniversary.

    Hope the Firefighters are ok.

Thats too bad Hammer! It really sucks when life takes a little piece of history out! At least you and the missus have the memories and they appear to be good ones.

Quite true man, that puts it into perspective.

I guess we could always have a pic-a-nic at the site of the rubble.

I feel the worst for the poor Service members out that way.

The Aldershot Training Area, (which is where I, as well as many other Reservists went for Basic training), was just a cab-ride away from the attached bar, "Legends".

    The ultimate cougar-pick-up spot.

Many a Serviceman has spent his hard-earned blood, sweat & tear money at that bar, trying to, (and usually succeeding) in the pursuit and capture of the not-so-elusive cougar....

    I weep for them.

I wouldn't weep too much! If there is a need for a bar there then someone will build another on the same spot. Or you'll get a Tim Hortons!!

    There's a Tim's across the street...and up a bit.

Funny enough, us guys from the wedding party went there after we left the bar to get donuts.....and throwup.
And...we changed the signs on the gas station next to the hotel....premium was 7 cents a litre the next day....

    Oh, the impetuousness of youth.....

Excuse my ignorance, but not being an East-coaster- what is (was) the significance of the Wandlyn? -other than you gettin' hitched up there, of course.
I'd say I care- but I'd probably be lying...

More or less...it was where all the Army guys posted to Aldershot, NS went to get laid...sure deal EVERYTIME.

The place was actually my first Nova Scotian experience....and made me not wanna move there....

Our, (the Wife and I's) wedding party had quite the time in that place....they moved from the reception....to the bar...than convinced that night's security guard to party with them.

Long story short, the vast majority of my half of the wedding party, plus assorteds, plus some staff, convened in a conference room, where my Bro-in-law (the good Dr Gunn), chaired a comitee of some sort, with a collander on his head.
(That's how you know who's boss...it's the dude with the shiniest hat).

    Proud times.
